I work for a granite and custom tile and stone fabrication company. I control the jet cutter. These machines are amazing. The things you can do and cut is endless and unbelievable. Whoever designed it is a genius

For smaller parts... get whats called, waterjet brick(s) Its honeycombed teflon material - guessing 3"~4" thick.. (so, you lose some height "Z" travel) yes, this gets destroyed, just like the cutting table. I've cut many different materials, working for the aerospace industry. example: something like window glass, bullet proof plastics, (any) metals, etc Seems to me, the harder the material is to cut, the better. The waterjet is a great tool to have in the shop.

Waterjet cutting is a cold-cutting process.

If I understand your question, why the high velocity water jet does not deform the tube, where the water come out? it's simple, because the abrasive jet ( water mixed with abrasive) can cut different material, a lot of material, as it seems to be, but actually the abrasive jet can not cut a number of material, like diamand (high ductility) and some ciramics, so the tube is generaly made of ciramic, the reason he still hold the high energy, but everything has an end, you know...

Yeah it is. But the abrasive (usually garnet) isn't something you want to use more than twice. Or maybe even once.

"Reduces operator fatigue" - perhaps, but all the fast cutting in this video definitely induces viewer fatigue. Let us just see the damn thing working!

@jlboycebu - Once the waterjet hits air, it actually dissipates quite quickly. After about 36” of travel, you’re left with nothing more than some mist!

Well, Blake. Maybe that is because they make high-end waterjets and not videos. You are looking at a technological marvel that costs more then you will ever make in your lifetime and you notice the editing of the video. Great eye ! You will go far in life, I have no doubt.

@VioletGiraffe There is a stone, usually a ruby, in the end of the outtake with a small hole inside. The stream of water is passing through the ruby, not the steel.
